Last evening we went directly from having a chat with an actual astronomer to seeing Star Wars III. To do so seemed both fitting and ironic at the same time. Both the movie and our conversation had a good bit to do with politics, war, and an empire.
It was good to note that, even in the Star Wars universe, contractors take forever to finish their projects. We see the Death Star under construction at the end of the latest movie - Luke & Leia are newborn babies. In Episode 4, the Death Star still isn't finished and Luke and Leia are adults. By this measure, UC Merced is being completed rapidly.
If necessary for the future, I have plans that locate the UC Merced exhaust ports.
