Movin' on Up

We have just moved into our 4th residence since arriving in Sydney. It’s not time to unpack yet – this is just one more rung up the ladder to that glorious and elusive “place we want to live”. For the uninitiated, the PWW2L is defined as: any place in Manly that allows a dog.

Things such as electricity, plumbing, insulation, and stunning views are all optional; we are open for negotiation. One would think that our combined income and a willingness to spend 2/3 of our take home pay on rent would make this search relatively easy, but not so.

In the meantime, we have moved from the tiny studio apartment into a less-expensive, spacious, 2 bedroom top-floor apartment with a balcony and a nice view of the harbo(u)r. Seriously. And dogs are allowed. No, really. And it is in Potts Point - a good neighborhood.

Here's the view from the porch:

Before you get too excited for us, there are a few downsides. It is nowhere near the beach. We are sharing with another guy and his dog. He gets the big bedroom, we get the tiny bedroom. His dog, a sweet young Dalmatian, has totally asserted dominance over Oskar – the tough ex-con hides in our room. The apartment is almost completely unfurnished – it is a nice big expanse of hardwood floors, but with nowhere to sit and eat (however, it does have a considerable amount of Big Art, from the renowned “Home Experiment with Acrylics” school of painting). And lastly, our housemate calls our dog “Otto”, which isn’t helping his self confidence.

But man, who’s complaining?! (I mean, besides that bit in the last paragraph.) This is a real step up – heck TWO steps up – from where we were before; much more room, less noise, and less bugs. I was worried about how the housemate situation might go, but so far we hardly even see the guy. As long as we remember to wash the solitary coffee mug, all is well.

We're getting there...

xoxo, h & c
