Here’s the scene:
Strong gusts blow with bouts of rain, interspersed with dramatic sun breaks and rainbows. The marine service warns of heavy seas of up to 3.5 meters. The temperature drops enough that some people wear knit caps with their flip flops.
Into this scene appears a wetsuit clad figure, striding confidently down the hill towards the beach. A gust almost takes the surfboard out of her hands. Slightly less confidently, she strides on. The Manly locals whinge at the weather, but it is old hat for this Oregon Coast trained water-girl.
The waves march in toward the beach in tall dark lines, throwing white plumes of spray behind them in the off-shore winds, and pitching forward – booming – into the shallower water.
Tourists huddle in pockets and one asks “are you going out there?” She nods with a slight smile. Crosses the beach and strokes out into the surf.
Later, the tourists are in even more awe as she leaves the water holding a greater number of objects than she had when she entered. (see picture below)

Bummer, dudette.
